How to record a lecture with Scribe
1. Check you’re allowed to record. Look up your university’s lecture-recording policy, or ask the lecturer. If you have a reasonable adjustment through Disability Services or Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), recording may already be agreed.
2. Put your iPhone on the desk and tap record. Then listen. You don’t need to type everything.
3. Review the summary after class. Spend a few minutes on the summary and the speaker-labelled transcript while it’s fresh.
4. Revise with Ask Scribe. Before exams, ask questions about a lecture instead of re-reading the whole transcript.
5. Keep modules tidy. Create a folder for each module so a term’s lectures are easy to find.
What Scribe does
Speaker-labelled transcripts: Every recording becomes a transcript that shows who said what.
AI summaries: A short summary of the conversation as soon as you stop recording.
Action items: Tasks and owners pulled out of the conversation into a checklist.
Meeting minutes: Structured minutes organised by topic, ready to share.
Ask Scribe: Ask questions about a recording, like “What did James say about the timeline?”
Folders & calendar timeline: Organise recordings in folders and see them linked to the meetings on your calendar.
Pro Live: Live Copilot: Real-time live transcription while the meeting is happening, plus Question Radar talking points when someone asks you a question.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to record lectures in the UK?
Recording lectures for your own study is generally governed by your university’s policy rather than by a blanket rule. Some universities allow personal recording, some ask you to get the lecturer’s permission, and recording is often allowed as a reasonable adjustment. Always check your university’s policy and don’t share recordings without permission.
Does Scribe work in big lecture theatres?
Scribe records through your iPhone’s microphone, so sitting closer to the lecturer or a speaker gives better results. Speaker labels separate the lecturer from student questions.
Is there a student discount?
Scribe doesn’t have a separate student plan. The cheapest options are the £4.99 weekly pass for exam weeks or the £69.99 annual plan (about £1.35 a week).
Does it work on Android or laptops?
No. Scribe is iPhone-only.
